Course Options
Options for students who have experienced extraordinary circumstances that have significantly impacted their ability to complete coursework:- Request flexibility regarding assignments and exams. Talk to your instructor first.
- Request an Incomplete grade
- Petition for a retroactive withdrawal from the quarter
- Petition for a retroactive withdrawal from a course
- Plan to repeat the course
- Flexibility for temporary or unexpected disability, supported by documentation, is at the discretion of the instructor. For accommodations related to disabilities, students should register with the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD).

- To submit a petition for a University Exception for retro-active withdrawal from the term or retro-active drop from one or more, but not all courses, for College review, use the ERC Academic Senate Exception Form.
Note: These exceptions are not guaranteed to be approved. Additionally, guidance provided by academic advisors does not constitute guaranteed approval. See Academic Senate Procedures for Requesting Exceptions.
Petition Processing Time
Petitions requiring College review will be reviewed within 2 weeks of submission and outcomes will be provided in the VAC. If approved by the College, petitions requiring Academic Senate review, will be submitted to the Academic Senate Educational Policy Committee (EPC) for review. This committee meets monthly during the academic year. This committee does not meet on a regular schedule during the summer. Petitions results are returned 4-6 weeks following the meeting and outcomes will be provided in the VAC.
