First Year & Family Orientation Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I register for Orientation?

All incoming students will register for your Live Orientation Webinar on the College Orientation Registration site (opens May 17). Please check your UC San Diego Email for instructions on how to register.

To attend the a session, you must register by July 29, 2022. You will have the ability to edit your registration one time. Any changes/edits after the deadline will incur a $25.00 late fee.

Is Orientation being held online or in-person this year?

There are both online and in-person portions of our orientation program this year! Your orientation experience will be made up of a mandatory online Pre-Orientation component on Canvas, a mandatory virtual webinar portion, along with voluntary in-person activities. Together, these pieces will provide you with the knowledge and campus connection necessary to navigate your first year.

Can my Parent/Family Member register for Orientation?

You Parent/Family Member is welcome to view the COMPASS module specifically designed for them - which broadly covers academics, expectations, life on campus, and resources available to students.

Additionally, throughout the month of August, we will be posting resources and materials on the Parent/Family Orientation webpage.

If Family Members wish to be added to our e-mailing list, please fill out this form! We will certainly send details on we plan to host live webinars for family! Registration is not required, and there is no fee for these resources.

Which Live Orientation Webinar session should I attend?

You should select the session that works best for you! The content shared will be the same. Some things to keep in mind:

  • All students should consider where they will be at the time of the webinar. If you are moving to campus, make sure that your session does not conflict with your travels or move-in plans.
  • If you are a student athlete you will need to check with your coach to determine which session to attend. Your practices and schedules in September may conflict with Orientation and Orientation is mandatory for all incoming students.

Please note registration is on a first come, first served basis. Once a session is full, it is full!  Please register early to increase your chances of attending your first choice session. See the FAQ question below on how to get added to the waitlist.

I'm an International Student, what else do I need to do?

If you are an International Student you will need to attend both an Eleanor Roosevelt College Orientation session AND an International Student Orientation.
