Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
The Student Health Service (SHS), a division of Student Affairs, invites you to utilize our healthcare services for a variety of your medical needs. All students paying registration fees have access to the Student Health and Wellness Center.
Most outpatient primary care medical services at SHS are provided to you at no cost while you are a registered student. Clinic Services include: Primary Health Care, Urgent Care and First Aid, Pharmacy, Laboratory, X-ray, Optometry, Men's/Women's Clinic, Travel Clinic, Immunizations, Nutrition Counseling, HIV Testing, and Health Education. Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP):
Health Insurance is a mandatory non-academic condition for enrollment at UC San Diego. All students paying full registration fees to UC San Diego are automatically enrolled into the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Students already covered by waiver-qualifying health insurance may apply for a Health Insurance Fee waiver.
A waiver application must be submitted on-line via TritonLink (click on Health Fee Waiver from the TritonLink home-page) by the waiver period deadline. Students who do not waive by the deadline are enrolled into SHIP and the fee for SHIP will be charged to his or her student account.

SHIP Referral Requirements:
SHIP requires that you obtain a written referral from a SHS provider for all covered services rendered within a 100-mile radius from UC San Diego, in the absence of an Emergency. A referral is a written document authorizing you to receive medical care for a condition from a non-SHS provider. A written referral from SHS is required for any follow-up care after Emergency services. A referral from an Emergency Room doctor is not a valid referral. NO BENEFITS are payable when covered charges are incurred within a 100-mile radius of UC San Diego in the absence of a referral or an Emergency.
