Steven Cassedy, Professor of Slavic and Comparative Literature and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, has been at UCSD since 1980. He received his B. A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan in 1974 and his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University in 1979. He studied classical piano at the Juilliard School, Pre-College Division, and at the University of Michigan School of Music. From 2001 to 2007, he served as Director of Eleanor Roosevelt College’s Making of the Modern World Program. He created the MMW “Short Version” public lecture series in 2003. He has published on a range of topics, including Russian, French, German, and Yiddish literature, Jewish cultural history, history of philosophy, history and philosophy of science, music, religious philosophy, and American studies. He has given lecture-performances from the piano in a variety of venues across the United States.
