From the Buddha to the Dalai Lama

After a year of planning, recruitment, and program development, and after teaching a 2-credit preparatory course focused on the theme of Buddhism and Environmentalism, on Friday, June 12, Edmond Chang traveled to India with 22 UCSD students, representing all colleges, though most are from ERC.  There, they  augmented the academic content with a first-hand encounter of Buddhist sacred sites around Varanasi, participated in a service project, and experienced a private audience with the Dalai Lama at his home monastery in Dharamasala.   This new program had been a partnership between ERC and the Programs Abroad Office, with Edmond Chang and Jim Galvin leading the effort to make this happen.
