Transfer Orientation Frequently Asked Questions

Which session should I attend?

If the session you were hoping to attend is closed, it is because the session is completely full.  We cannot guarantee you that space will become available in the session you prefer.

If you would like to waitlist for a session you must do the following:

  1. Register for an Open Session, by completing registration on New Student Site. Please be sure to complete all the Academic Background Information Pages!
  2. Send an email to ercmail@ucsd.edu to request to be placed on the waitlist or a different session. Be sure to include your First & Last Name, Student PID Number (the number that starts with the letter "A"), the session you would prefer, and the reason you would like to attend that session.

All incoming students to UC San Diego are required to attend orientation.

How do I pay for Orientation?

Orientation Fees are added directly to your UC San Diego student bill.  You will see this fee as part of your first bill from the University. Students do not pay for Orientation separately.

Students do not pay for Orientation at the time of registration. The Orientation Program Fee will show on either the August or October Billing Statement. To check your UC San Diego Billing Statement log onto Tritonlink.

For those students with Financial Aid - The Orientation Fee is covered by Financial Aid.  The College Orientation program and program fee is mandatory for all students.  The Orientation Fee is non-refundable.  Financial Aid will not pay the orientation fee for students who attend the orientation session but to not enroll in fall classes.

 

What is the Change/Cancellation & Late Registration Policy?

You will have the option to edit your registration one time before August 1st, 2018.

If you need to make a change after the deadline, please call 858-534-2237, Monday-Friday 9:00am - 4:00pm or send an email to ercmail@ucsd.edu. Changes will only be accommodated if space allows and if completed at least five (5) business days prior to the session. You will be charged a $25.00 late registration/change fee. 

Cancellations are only approved for students no longer attending the University in the Fall. Otherwise, orientation is mandatory.

How do I get to ERC Orientation?

Driving Directions:

  • Take Interstate - 5 Freeway
  • Exit on La Jolla Village Dr. and head west
  • Continue on La Jolla Village Dr. The road will become North Torrey Pines Road
  • Continue straight on North Torrey Pines Road
  • Turn Right at Pangea Drive
  • Proceed to the Stop Sign at the Top of Pangea Drive
  • Turn Left onto Scholar's Drive North
  • Pangea Parking Structure Entrance is on your left - please enter there.

If you prefer to use your own GPS Navigation Device or App, majority of applications recognize "Pangea Parking Structure" as a final destination.

*Please note - There is construction occurring on the I-5 Freeway right near the University - please prepare for heavy traffic and possible delays.*

Where do I get a parking permit?

  • Parking Passes will start to be distributed starting at 7:00am-9:00am in the Pangea Parking Structure
  • Check-in will begin at 7:30am
  • Orientation will begin at 9:00am
We offer one (1) complimentary parking pass per student attending orientation, valid for the day of Orientation only.

To pick up the complimentary parking pass, enter at the top floor of the Pangea Parking Structure (on North Scholar's Drive). Parking passes will only be distributed in the time frame noted above. If you arrive early, please wait for the parking attendants to arrive. If you arrive late, please purchase a parking permit from the Electronic Kiosks located on the top level of the parking structure. Vehicles that do not display a valid parking permit will be ticketed, Monday-Friday from 7:00am-11:00pm. 

If you have any questions regarding parking or permits, please ask an ERC Orientation Leader or Staff Member.

Note: ERC is not responsible for any parking citations.

Will there be food at Orientation?

We will provide food throughout the orientation session.

If you have any dietary restrictions then be sure to indicate that on the new student site on your registration page.  If you do not let us know of any dietary restrictions at least 2 weeks in advance of your orientation then we will not be able to accommodate your needs.

What should I bring to Orientation?

  • Comfortable shoes and clothes - there may be a lot of walking.
  • Sunscreen and/or a hat - you will be outside for portions of the day.
  • Sweatshirt/light jacket – classrooms can be chilly
  • Snacks – to supplement in between meal times
  • Reusable Water Bottle - UC San Diego has "hydration stations" around campus so that you can refill your water bottle with purified water throughout Orientation.

If I'm living on campus in the Fall, can I move in early?

Can my family members or friends come to orientation?

No - Unfortunately we do not provide a Transfer family program; the Orientation Sessions are for incoming ERC Transfer Students only.

We welcome your family member to come to campus and explore on their own while you are in Orientation.

We do however highly recommend that your family members attend the UC San Diego Family Weekend, which will occur in October.  For more information visit the Parent and Family Programs website.

Where and when do I take the math placement exam?

I'm an International student. Is there anything else I need to do?

Where do I verify that my transcripts were received?

Please visit the Admissions website to for information and deadlines. Go to "my application" to see what items have been completed.

Help! I'm having issues with the New Student Site.

Please first look at a list of common issues and their solutions.

If you are still having trouble please take a screen shot of what you are seeing so that we can see exactly what the problem is. Please email that screen shot to us along with your Student PID number and a brief explanation of what is happening. Send the email to ercmail@ucsd.edu

Help! I'm having issues getting my email verified.

If your UC San Diego Email is activated and you are receiving emails to your UC San Diego account but you have not received the email Verification Code, please first check your Spam Folder.  Often times the email with the code goes to students' spam folder.  If you still cannot find your verification code please email us at ercmail@ucsd.edu. In your email, please your First and Last Name and your Student PID number.

If you have not already set up your UC San Diego Email account or you are having trouble accessing your account please go through the ETS Troubleshooting Steps.  You can find that help on their website: http://acms.ucsd.edu/students/accounts-and-passwords/start.html. If after trying those troubleshooting steps you are still not able to get your email working you must contact ETS directly.  We cannot help you set up your email or solve any login related issues.  Only ETS can help you with the email issues.
