Roommates are assigned based on responses to the Personal History Form, however, if you would like to request a specific person to be your roommate please follow these steps:
The information you provide on the Personal History Form included in your contract packet largely determined the roommate(s) and/or apartment mates you received. Students were also able to request each other as roommates, either on the Personal History Form or separately in writing. While we have done our best to accommodate these requests, they were not guaranteed, regardless of your college of residence.
Your roommate and/or apartment-mates are listed on the on-line room assignment page, along with their contact information. We encourage you to contact them in the short time before you arrive for move-in weekend in order to get to know them better and to discuss any specifics regarding what you each plan to bring during move-in, or any changes to your assigned bedspace due to preferences/physical needs you have about bed type (loft or bunk, top or bottom bunk, etc.) NOTE: While the convenience of on-line communities such as Facebook have made it easier to gather lots of information at the click of a button, we strongly encourage that you also take the time to actually speak with your roommate(s) on the phone or in person, if at all possible. We especially ask that you take the time to have a discussion about the particular aspect of the assigned bed placement, and discuss any physical needs for certain bed configurations, as opposed to simply making demands of what you want. Fully discuss with your roommate(s) any desired changes to the assigned bedspaces before move-in.
The on-line assignment page should list your roommate(s) and suitemates in the residence halls, and all residents of an apartment. Look for your residence hall room or apartment number on the list. If another person is listed with the exact same room information as you, then you are in a double or triple room and the other(s) is/are your roommate(s). If you are in an apartment, and the persons listed share the same apartment number but different room numbers from you, then you are in a single room and the others listed are your apartment-mates.
The on-line room assignment page lists both your room/apartment location and your mailbox number. This mailbox number is what you use as a mailing address, NOT your room/apartment location. Have your mail addressed as follows:
Your Name Here
#_ _ _ _ _ (list your full mailbox number here
9450 Gilman Drive
La Jolla, CA 92092-0100
Please Note: Campus Mail Services will not begin delivering mail or packages until AFTER Monday, September 28. Also, due to the liability issues and storage problems involved, the Office of Residence Life will not be accepting any mail or packages prior to move-in. If you are planning to ship some of your personal items instead of bringing them with you, arrange to have them delivered to the campus after September 28.
Additional Tip on Package Mail: Letters, magazines, and small packages that fit will be delivered directly to your mailbox. Large packages and other items larger than your mailbox that are sent via U.S. Mail (First, Second, or Third Class, Express Mail, Priority Mail, and Certified Mail), United Parcel Service (UPS), Federal Express, Airborne Express, DHL Express, as well as special deliveries such as flowers and campus catering orders, are delivered directly to the Student Activities Center or Office of Residence Life. In either case you will receive a notice with instructions on when and where you can pick up your package.
Telephone Service: There is one telephone hook-up in each bedroom in the residence halls and apartments, with an additional hook-up in the kitchen of each apartment. Students may call SBC at 1-877-7CAMPUS to order local telephone service, or they may use their own cell phone as a contact number for the college residential records (preferred).
Cable Service: There is TV cable access in each bedroom (additional TV cable access is also available in the lounges of the residence halls and living rooms of the apartments). Campus cable listings (including HBO, MTV, and ESPN) will be distributed at move-in, or can be accessed on the ERC Residence Life page of the college website (http://roosevelt.ucsd.edu).
Laundry: One centrally located laundry facility is located in both the east and west residential areas, containing coin-operated (quarters only) or Triton Cash accessed washers and dryers.

Note on Hanging and/or Attaching Items to the Walls: If you plan on bringing posters or pictures to hang in your room or apartment, please purchase non-staining and non-marring adhesive mounting putty such as Tac-Stick or removable fasteners such as 3M Command Adhesive (most major home and hardware stores carry these items) - nails and hooks are not allowed due to the damage caused in walls or ceilings. Please note that you are not allowed to drill or nail anything into the walls to install bookcases, shelves, etc.
