Move-in Directions
When and Where to Move in
- Move-in weekend is September 19-20.
- Students have until 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 to move in without penalty.
- First-year students living in the Residence Halls (Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and North America Halls) and new international residents of International House may move in based on their assigned move-in date and time beginning Saturday, September 19, 2009.**
- Due to the high volume of move-in traffic with the freshmen and new International House residents, second-year students living in the ERC Apartments (Mesa Verde, Geneva, Oceania, Middle East, and Earth Halls) have assigned check-in times that begin Sunday, September 20, 2009.
**Unless you are a registered participant in September Orientation who paid for early check-in (see your orientation confirmation for details), or if you applied on-line for early move-in (see your on-line Room Assignment page for more details; I-House early move-ins refer to the e-mail confirming your previous early move-in request).

- Parking is FREE at UC-San Diego on the weekends.
- However, there is no parking grace period prior to the beginning of the quarter. Permits must be obtained when parking on the weekdays.
- Please note that areas of the campus will be very congested with move-in traffic, especially during move-in weekend, so expect some delays and/or limited accessibility to parking adjacent to the living areas.
Notes on Current Construction/Potential Traffic Delays:
Phase Two of The Village at Torrey Pines housing project construction is currently under way. Vehicular traffic around the site and on adjacent streets will be impacted at times to accommodate construction activities and utility installation. Please expect delays, especially during the weekdays.
Tips for Successful Move-In
While you unload your belongings, a limited number of student volunteers (wearing red "LifeSaver" shirts) will be available to assist. Please note that there are no elevators in any of our apartment buildings, including International House. Because of this, we strongly suggest you use rolling luggage and pack smaller boxes that are easy to carry, and strongly recommend that you invest in the purchase of a luggage cart or hand dolly (preferably with air tires and stair guards) to allow greater flexibility in your move. These carts can be found in many stores, including Home Depot and Target. The college does not provide carts or hand dollies during move-in.
When packing, please be aware that there is limited space in the residence hall rooms or apartments. We recommend that you pack only one car load. (Experience shows that many parents/families end up taking a lot back home with them.) Large rental trucks (U-Haul types), trailers, and moving vans are not permitted in the parking structures or along Scholars Drive, and will have to park in the east parking lots away from the living areas.
For specific details about student rooms, please visit the MyRoomAssignment page or the Residence Life page on the college website http://roosevelt.ucsd.edu.
During move-in weekend, students will be able to pick up their UCSD Triton Cash photo ID cards when they check-in. Dining plan information is encoded in the magnetic strip on the back of these student I.D. cards. A base level dining plan is included in your housing contract regardless of the college residence in which you live - residence halls or apartments. The meal plan begins with dinner on Saturday, September 19.
Please Note: You must pick up your key by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. If you have not picked up your key by that time or contacted our office in writing to indicate that you will be arriving later than this time, you will forfeit your housing space.
