Math Tutor Corps

What is the Math Tutor Corps?

ERC was presented with the opportunity to work with the CREATE STEM Initiative to create a program that supports underrepresented students who have limited access to educational opportunities. The Math Tutor Corps gives UCSD students the opportunity to be positive role models and mentors that support college access and success at our partnership school, Lincoln High School.

Program Overview

  1. Offered every quarter with the exception of summer
  2. Open to ALL UCSD students
  3. One-quarter commitment of 4 hours/week on-site tutoring at Lincoln
  4. Opportunity to gain training by veteran math educators from Math for America (MfA) through bi-weekly 2-unit, P/NP seminar
  5. Program begins Week 2 of every quarter
  6. Prerequisite: Math 10A or 20A, or your college's math GE requirement

Application Process

  1. Fill out the online application
  2. Enroll in ERC 89: Practicum in Math Tutoring
  3. Fill out a Lincoln Volunteer Application
  4. Get a TB test (must be within 3 months) and fill out a Megan’s law background check form

Application deadline: Friday of Week 2
All applicants are accepted
, provided they submit their application on time and complete all necessary steps.

Our first info session of the quarter will be on Tuesday, May 29th at 3:00 pm in the Student Leadership Chambers in Price Center on the 4th Floor.

Lincoln High School

Lincoln High School is a traditional 9-12 high school located in the Diamond District of San Diego. One of the largest schools in the district, Lincoln is home to approximately 1500 students. Lincoln has undergone many recent changes, including its beautiful new campus buildings and its growing status as an icon in the community. The Math Tutor Corps was created with Lincoln’s student population in mind to contribute to the college going culture at Lincoln and serve as an additional resource in assisting students towards reaching their future goals. 



UC San Diego CREATE is an innovative education research center that supports and promotes diversity, excellence, and equity in education. CREATE actively links UC San Diego to the local K-20 community through college preparation and success programs, research and program evaluation, school improvement efforts, and educator professional learning.


Math For America San Diego

Math for America SD is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics in high-needs secondary schools in the San Diego region.
