Join us, and we promise you will not be disappointed!

About Us
International Affairs Group (IAG) is a UCSD student organization run by International House. It was founded in the mid-1990s with the intention of heightening our understanding of global issues and increasing our awareness of the world in which we live. Today, IAG is a vibrant student group that plays a leading role in the international dimension of campus life. IAG draws attention to issues of global concern through various programs: a speaker series, seminar discussions, student panels, film screenings, and informal presentations. Collectively, these various formats offer a unique insight into our world, be it social, cultural, political or economic.

Students, faculty, and guests interested in IAG are invited to attend weekly events, join the IAG email listserv, and offer input toward the development of future meetings and events. IAG is open to all and convenes every Monday night (weeks 2-10) at 7 pm in the Great Hall, located in UCSD’s International House in Eleanor Roosevelt College.

FAQ

Who can participate in IAG?
Everyone is welcome, regardless of major, college, or housing situation! Students, faculty, and guests interested in IAG are invited to attend weekly meetings, sign up for the IAG listserv, and offer input into the development of future meetings.

I'm a science major. Will I really benefit from IAG?
Absolutely! Whether or not your chosen academic field is a social science, everyone can benefit from IAG. Many meetings will be dedicated to the role of science in the world and particularly in third-world countries. You will see the relationship between science and policy worldwide, and how scientific developments in one part of the world can affect a child or family thousands of miles away. In addition, IAG will make you a well-rounded person, and you will be able to acquire knowledge on current affairs and international events without having to officially register for a class. Nice, huh?

I have an idea for a potential IAG. What should I do?
We are always looking for new and exciting IAG program ideas, whether for the current or future years. If you would like to suggest an idea for a program, please contact Shannon, the International Affairs Group Intern, at ihouseiagintern@ucsd.edu.

Do I have to attend every IAG?
No, but we should warn you, once you come to one, it will be hard to stay away! IAG is a club that you can come to whenever you have the time, but because it deals with so many important international issues of our day, many regulars end up budgeting the time into their schedule. Imagine expanding your world views for one hour every week--but without a midterm to cram for or a paper to write! Friends, culture, intellectual debates--it doesn't get much better than that.

When and where do IAG sessions take place?
IAG takes place every Monday night (generally weeks 2 through 10 every quarter) in the Great Hall at International House (across from IR/PS). In addition, there may be extra or special sessions scheduled for another day of the week, so be sure to check the announcement postings and the IAG listserv on a regular basis.
