- Passing a standardized language proficiency exam in French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish. Click for Exam Dates.
- Passing an individually arranged language proficiency exam in languages other than those listed above see: http://ling.ucsd.edu/language/proficiency-exam.html for a list of testers and instructions.
- Earning a qualifying AP or IB score.
- Earning a score of 700 or higher on SAT II Language exam OR attending high school taught in a language other than English outside the U.S. Please see ERC Academic Advising for a waiver form.
Note: To be eligible for Phi Beta Kappa Honors, one year of college-level study, or demonstrated proficiency in a language other than English, is required.
Reminder: students may not overlap courses between GE requirements. This includes language courses used as pre-requisites to the fourth quarter of a language course.
